Cut the head off the rootstock at a minimum of two or three inches above the soil. Use a clean, sharp knife and make as precise a cut as possible. Always sterilize your equipment to minimize risk of infection
Cut off the head of your other cactus to create the scion.
Match the xylem and phloem vessels of the rootstock and scion, make sure the cross-section is not dry, lubricate with aloe vera gel. Align the xylem vessels, this is the most important part to ensure successful grating.
Secure the graft by putting rubber bands or use tape around the entire plant. All the way from the top of the cactus, down and around the pot.
