Euphorbia Abdelkuri

Euphorbia abdelkuri is a very peculiar candelabra-like succulent plant lacking both leaves and spines, which looks like a grey candle with whitish-grey melted wax on it. It form densely branched candelabra-like clumps usually not more than 1 m height by 1.5 in diameter on one clump (but occasionally in habitat some plants can reach 3 m in height.

Grafting euphorbia

The technique of grafting euphorbias differs little from that of other succulents, the latex must be washed or showered off until hardly anything remains. Both scion and stock need to be at the start of the growing season.

The stock should be cut as near as possible to the growing tip, as it is not yet woody and will feed the scion in the most ideal manner. The plants should be left in an airy and shady place for 7-10 days before the bands are taken out.

Euphorbia abdelkuri is grown almost exclusively grafted on Euphorbia canariensis which proven to be the ideal grafting stock. The grafting is very successful, new grafts often show growth within 3 weeks.

Caring for euphorbia

1) Expose to full to partial sunlight. Provide direct sunlight at least 3-5 hours of the day, and turn the pot regularly so that the stem doesn’t begin to grow lopsided.

2) It grows well in well-draining, gritty soil or cactus potting mix. They are not particular about soil pH, but they cannot tolerate wet soil.

3) Allow the soil to dry out between each watering. Do not water too often to prevent overwatering, that can potentially cause the stem to rot.

4) Fertilize every two weeks with a diluted balanced liquid fertilizer during its growing season

5) It can be easily propagated by cuttings, allow the sap to dry first before propagating
